Amigurumi Pumpkin

Hello all! Fall is almost upon us and nothing says fall quite like a Pumpkin. Their warm autumn colours is enough to make us long for cozy sweaters, hot drinks and crisp autumn days. So, if you’d like to bring a little of that fall coziness into your home, this Amigurumi Pumpkin pattern is the perfect little project. Let’s crochet some tiny pumpkins!

Materials needed:

DK weight cotton yarn in main colour and brown.
3 mm crochet hook.
Fiberfill for stuffing.
Yarn needle
Sewing pins
Stitch marker and scissors.

Stitches/ Abbreviations

R – round/ row.
St(s) – stitch(es).
Sc – single crochet.
Inc – increase (2sc in one st).
Dec – decrease (sc 2 st together).
BLO – Back loops only.
[…] – repeat the instructions given in between the brackets.
(…) – total number of stitches.

Instructions:

Pumpkin (Worked from bottom to top):

Using main colour yarn,

R1: 8 sc in magic ring (8)

R2: Inc x 8 (16)

R3: [ Sc, Inc ] x 8 (24)

R4: [ Sc 2, inc ] x 8 (32)

R5: [ Sc 3, inc ] x 8 (40)

R6-16 : Sc in each st (40)

R17: [ Sc 3, dec ] x 8 (32)

R18: [ Sc 2, dec ] x 8 (24)

Stuff firmly with fiberfill and continue to stuff as you go.

R19: [ Sc, dec ] x 8 (16)

R20: Dec x 8 (8)

Fasten off and leave a long tail.

Using yarn needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loops of the remaining 8 stitches. Pull tight to close the hole.

Don’t cut the yarn tail if you are going to use the same colour for the pumpkin ridges.If not, weave in the yarn tail.

Making the ridges:

Split the pumpkin body into 8 equal sections (5 sts apart in the middle) and mark each point with a sewing pin. This is where you will cinch to create the ridges.

Cut a long length of brown yarn and thread it through a tapestry needle.

Insert the needle up through the centre of the base (magic ring), bringing it out at the top centre.

Wrap the yarn down over the first pinned point, then insert the needle back through the base centre and pull through to the top again. Pull gently to cinch that section, so the ridge starts to define itself.

Repeat wrapping over each pinned point in turn and cinching as you go, until all 8 sections have been wrapped.

Once all the sections are done, pull the tail through to the base and pull tight to deepen the ridges. Fasten off securely and weave in the ends.
