I could never get bored of making Sunflowers! They are lovely, bright, and cheerful. To welcome the spring, I’m here with a beautiful 3D sunflower granny square pattern for you.

Materials needed:
- DK weight cotton yarn in brown, dark brown, yellow and blue colour
- 3 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers and scissors
Stitches/ Abbreviation:
- R – round/ row
- ch – chain
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- tr – treble crochet
- P – picot stitch
- BLO – back loops only
- FLO – front loops only
- […] – repeat the instructions given in between the bracket
- (…) – total number of stitches
Note
- This pattern is written in US crochet terms.
- The ch 3 at the beginning of a round counts as 1 dc unless stated otherwise.
- Use Invisible fasten off where indicated for a seamless finish.
- The petals may seem bunched at first but this will relax once the squares are completed.
- Blocking is recommended for best shape and stitch definition.
Pattern Instructions:
Sunflower center:
R1 (Dark brown):
Ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc in MR
Sl st to top of beginning ch-3 to join (12)
Fasten off.
R2 (Light Brown):
Join yarn in any st of previous round and,
Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in each stitch around.
Fasten off using an invisible fasten off.
This leaves the back loops of Round 2 available for later use.
Petals:
R3 (Yellow – worked in front loops of R2):
Join yarn in the front loop only of any stitch from Round 2
[ (Sl st, ch 2, dc, tr, p) in same st, (tr, dc, ch 2, sl st) in next st ] x 12
Fasten off.
Granny Square:
R4 (Blue – worked in Back loops of R2):
Join yarn in the back loops only of any stitch from Round 2.
Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same st, skip next st, 3 dc in next st, skip next st, (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) in next st.
[ Skip next st, 3 dc in next st, skip next st, 3 dc in next st, skip next st, (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) in next st ] x 3
Skip next st, 3 dc in next st.
Sl st to the top of beginning ch 3 to join.
R5: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in next 8 sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space.
[ dc in next 12 sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space ] x 3
Dc in next 3 sts. Sl st to top of beginning ch 3 to join.
R6: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in next 10 sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space.
[ dc in next 16 sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-2 space ] x 3
Fasten off using an invisible fasten off.
Weave in all the ends and your Sunflower Granny square is now done!
